Doodling with watercolor sticks

Doodling and playing around with some water soluble inks (Diamine Damson, J Herbin Vert Empire) and Daniel Smith watercolor sticks (Moonglow, Quin Gold, Quin Red, Undersea Green, Hansa Yellow Medium) to see which colors/inks work together.  Not sure if I found that match, but some of these ink/color combos work really well together.

Doodling in Pastel

Just a quick doodle, in pastel no less.  After touching up the "Rocks at Dawn" in pastel, I could not stop.  Now I want to break out my pastels in 2016 and thought I would just play around (it completely busted out of its little box).  What was most fun was taking a wet paint brush to pull the pigment around in a rough wash and then going over it again with more pastel.

Weekley Sketches

Just trying to do more simple sketches, doodles and what nots in my new sketchbook.  Doodling is just fun. . .and relaxing. 

I am looking to rediscover my lettering and calligraphy skill.  Believe it or not, in a time before computer fonts, I used to lots of hand lettering (and was quite good at it).  Now, my skills have atrophied.  The new pilot parallel pens I received for my birthday are the perfect tools and opportunity to just practice.

 

 

 

From the Gecko

Because we all knew that eventually. . .I had to. . .

"From the Gecko" is another colorful bastardization of the English language.  Roughly translated, it means "from the get go" or to do something at the start or beginning of a project.  Yet somehow, it never sounds that way.

And here is the little doodle, starting out as a mess of squiggly lines to test a new pen out that eventually became a lil gecko.  You can see the squiggles at the top.  When I did an oval, it made me think of a gecko's head.  From there is became a more focused doodle.
